Feeling Good

Posted on

Hey guys. It’s a big day for me.

Tonight is my first Zumba class as an instructor! I’m excited. And nervous. I’m mostly excited, but it will become mostly nervous about five minutes before class starts.

I got my attendance list yesterday morning, and am expecting 26 ladies. Can’t wait to daaaaaance my butt off.

I “taught” a mini class with my sister and her roommate on the weekend to get any bugs out. It’s amazing how much you can feed off of the energy of other people. I hope the atmosphere in tonight’s class gets me pumped.

Have I mentioned how sweatyyyyyy my playlist gets me? We’re talking an average of 550 calories burned each time I dance it through (love my heart rate monitor). No wonder my jeans are a little less tight these days ;) I’ve been living and breathing Zumba (that’s why I’ve been posting less … I feel like I’m either sweating or catching up on much needed sleep)!

Wish me luck!

Hello! I hope my American blog friends are in a post Thanksgiving turkey coma today, and had a wonderful time with friends and family yesterday. I’m in a sugar coma … we had a bake sale at work yesterday as a fundraiser for the Movember campaign. I was a terrific donator ;) (also … love the initiative, but can the moustaches go away now, please?).

So. Great news!

I got a job teaching Zumba! Fiiiiiiinally. If you’ll remember, I took my instructor training course back in May. Months ago, I had reached out to several gyms and organizations about teaching, and didn’t get far. I had all but given up on finding a place to teach … until I got a magical email from an organization a couple of days ago. She remembered me from our previous conversations, and offered me a gig! I start in the beginning of February, and will be teaching an eight week session.

YAHOOOOOO! Time to start preparing :)

Talking To Myself In The Mirror

It’s been six weeks since I took the training to become a Zumba instructor, and I have to be honest … I’m not where I want to be with it.

I had pictured myself teaching by now. I really wanted to be teaching by now. The course was expensive. It was nine hours of pretty hard work. I had to drive two hours for it. And, most importantly of all, I LOVE ZUMBA AND WANT TO TEACH IT.

But life has been getting in the way, unfortunately. I am nowhere near being able to teach yet. My schedule has been quite packed, and I haven’t allowed much time to work on the dances. I’ve made a few attempts, but it’s rare I have enough time to seriously consider the materials and absorb what I’m doing.

I have been making contact with gyms in town, and actually hope to meet with a fitness class coordinator at a senior’s fitness centre in a couple of weeks. So that’s promising. Originally, I wanted to have my first set of choreography ready for June 1st. Obviously that didn’t happen. Now, I think I need to line up a couple of classes and give myself a deadline in order to get my butt in gear. I’ll get there. I know I will :) it’s just going to take longer than I thought.

This post is pretty much a way to reassure myself that it’s okay that I haven’t started teaching yet. Sometimes I freak myself out and get down on myself for not accomplishing something the way I planned. I’m trying to get better at that. This is the blog version of talking to myself in the mirror and psyching myself up ;) don’t pretend you don’t do that. I do it allllll the time. Plus, I thought some of you might be wondering what the Zumba status was. I haven’t talked about it in a little while.

Now you know!

On a final (and completely unrelated and trivial) note, I am no longer watching The Bachelorette. Emily, you bore me to tears.

I’ll be back next season :) Enjoy your day!

I’m a Zumba Instructor!

Wahoo! I did my training this weekend to become a licensed Zumba instructor. I ACCOMPLISHED IT!

My certificate has my real name, so I did a little fixin’ with paint.

I promise I will tell you all about it tomorrow. It was nine hours of dancing and exercising … and I am super sore from it. But there’s so much satisfaction mixed into that pain. I love it. I can’t wait to get my choreography all figured out and find a teaching job!

Have a wonderful Monday – if you need me, I’ll be foam rolling ;)

Tell me about your weekend! What did you do? I know some of you had races … how did they go?
