Nervous Nellie

Posted on

Last night was the first of it’s kind for me.

I’m a reporter in the city where I live, and the area happens to be in the middle of an election. I was asked to sit on the media panel for a debate featuring all the local candidates.

I was so scared. Public speaking is not a huge deal for me, I’ve been doing it since I was in elementary school. And I talk for a living.

But if politics are involved? Buh bye confidence. I was afraid my questions for the candidates were dumb or would seem like I was ill informed. But, I put on my fanciest blazer and my favorite earrings and sat under the hot stage lights for two hours.

I’m happy to report that I survived, and looking back on it now, I realize it was a great experience for me to have (even though I’m pretty sure the audience could actually see my heart beating through my jacket).

But I’m 100% certain that I haven’t been that nervous in a long time. I honestly can’t remember the last time my heart beat that fast.

Except for when I see you, Ryan ;)

When was the last time you were really nervous?

Hurray for the weekend! I was beginning to think it was never going to get here. I’m happy to say that I don’t have a lot of plans this weekend, and that’s A OK with me :)

I’ve already bought my tickets to see The Lucky One tonight! That’s my favorite Nicholas Sparks novel … expect a gushy review and long winded sentences regarding Zac Efron’s muscles on Monday.

I’m thinking tomorrow’s workout will probably be yoga, done in the comfort of my living room/pajamas. And then, coffee + a big stack of DVD’s (mostly Dexter, I’m on season 3 now for those of you keeping track). I’m not going out this weekend. I had a little bit too much fun last weekend ;) no, I will be spending quality time with my best friend Couch instead.

And for Sunday? Groceries are needed badly (I’m out of Greek yogurt and haven’t had time to get any … you know that’s tragic right?) and then I have a late afternoon massage appointment. Hallelujah! I haven’t been to my massage therapist in several months and I know there’s some serious knots in my back (and my butt, is that weird?) that need to get worked out.

That’s what I call a relaxing weekend!

What are your plans this weekend? Do you ever go for massages?

A Total Write-Off

I decided to go out to a club with some of my friends on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun … I always enjoying having a couple of drinks and dancin’ the night away.

I take my nightclub dancing very seriously. I’m not one of those people who needs a few drinks in them to get out there and have fun. I probably look ridiculous but that doesn’t matter. I’m there to have a good time :) We were at a country bar … with a lot of country music, people in cowboy hats and boots … and ample amounts of two stepping.

Source

I left my cowboy boots at home though.

Have you ever two stepped before? It’s one of my favorite dances – but that’s because I’m a country girl at heart and have serious amounts of love for anything sang by Keith Urban/Tim McGraw/Garth Brooks/Blake Shelton/anyone in a cowboy hat.

I danced with several guys (who were all only mediocre – like I said, I take my dancing seriously), and then another fellow came up to me. He asked if I wanted to dance, and I said yes. It’s very rare I’ll say no to someone when they ask me.

I SHOULD HAVE SAID NO.

The poor guy didn’t have any idea what he was doing, plus he was leading with the wrong hand. I was trying to adjust to it … he was moving really fast … I was definitely struggling, but was trying to be a good sport about it.

Then, he decided to dip me … and dropped me. On my back. On the dance floor.

I would guess this was around 1 AM by this time – and you know what dance floors are like by that time of the night. Slimy, sticky, sometimes there is broken glass. And there I was laying in it (with a bruised elbow sustained from the fall, I might add).

Good times ;) Oh well, I survived.

Do you like to dance? My friends can’t stand me sometimes because I’ll drag them right out into the middle of the dance floor against their will. Whoopsie!

Saturday ended up being a spectacularly late night (I think I went to bed around 4? Yikes!). So yesterday I was beyond useless. A complete write-off. I had originally intended on heading to the gym. That got bumped on my schedule for this:

Slipper boots + yoga capri pants (anyone else LOVE hanging out in exercise clothes?!).

I did a yoga workout Saturday afternoon for arms and shoulders, and ended up being quite stiff and sore yesterday. Plus, I consider dancing in high heels for 3 hours a pretty great lower body workout ;) Or at least that’s what I told myself.

I’m back on the usual exercise train today! This morning’s workout will be a hilly 25 minute bike ride (I don’t usually worry about how many miles) and then some arm and shoulder work. I signed up for the Tone It Up! Bikini Series, and that kicked off yesterday. I’ve decided I’m not going to follow the plan word for word (even though I love those girls and they’re geniuses), but use it more as a loose guideline for the next little while. I figured it can’t hurt to try to incorporate different routines into my regular workouts … I’m just not going to force myself to follow it everyday.

What is your workout today?

Thursday Thoughts

The other night, I was flipping through the latest issue of Shape magazine. I have a subscription and definitely look forward to reading it every month. For April’s issue, the beautiful Alison Sweeney is featured on the cover … I’m a big fan of hers. I remember watching Days of Our Lives when I was younger and adoring her then, and I still watch her every week as the host of the Biggest Loser.

But my adoration of Alison Sweeney is not the point of this post, so I’m moving on. While flipping pages, I saw this:

I took a picture immediately. I want to know what you think!

Ummm…this is weird, no? I’m all for trying new exercise routines. I love mixing it up. But can you imagine trying to conduct a business meeting while sweating your face off? Trying to agree to the terms of a contract while your face drips? Or for me, doing an interview for a story … while I have sweat stains under my arms and probably smell terrible?

WHY would someone want to do that?! Perplexing.

Remember when I went out and bought myself a yoga mat? I’ve been putting that sucker to good use. In fact, I’m becoming a little bit obsessed. I haven’t signed up for any studio classes yet, but have done several videos online at home … and I have a favorite pose.

I could dolphin pose all over my house! I love that feeling in my shoulders … it really eases a lot of the tension. I’ve been pushing myself a lot at the gym lately when it comes to upper body workouts (tank top season is soon!) and this is a welcome stretch.

Do you practice yoga? Like I said, I’m a total newbie … but I like it! What is your favorite pose?

I’m a romance novel/movie/television show junkie. I’ve read countless Nicholas Sparks books, and my FAVORITE ONE is The Lucky One. So you can imagine how excited I am for this …

I know I’m not alone on this one ;) any other eager fans out there? I’m ready and willing to sob my eyes out.

…and swoon over Zac Efron, obviously.
