I’ve Fallen In Love

Posted on

Hey everyone! I hope your long weekend was fabulous. Mine. Rocked. Hard. I had a wonderful balance of relaxing, hanging out with friends, spending time with family, and kicking it by myself. I even got to spend a couple of hours dancing on Saturday night (and you know that’s one of my favorite things to do ;) ). A successful weekend, indeed!

I hope everyone heading back to school today is prepared! I was reminiscing last night over how much I loved the first day of school. Fancy clothes, a new class schedule, reuniting with friends … getting to use that first sheet of paper in my brand new binder :) I was a bona fide nerd.

Good luck to the students kicking off this school year and to the parents who will do thousands of hours of car pools, lunch making, and homework hassling over the next ten months!

I’m in love.

A breathless, unconditional, boundless kind of love.

How did I live without this before?

Meet Patsy. She’s my new Polar FT4F.

I’ve never worked out with a heart rate monitor before. I’m so glad I decided to buy one (I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t cheap) for myself. I find I’m pushing myself harder in my workouts because I want my heart rate higher and at that level for a longer period of time.

Patsy is my homegirl (and yes, I named her).

Have you ever worked out with a heart rate monitor? Would you ever want to try it?

A Meal Plan

So, tell me. How was your weekend?

Mine was fantastic. I was able to spend time with a great group of people Friday night, then went to The Hunger Games on Saturday. Just so you know, I’ll be seeing it 8 more times and then buying it on DVD. It was done so well, and stayed as true to the book as possible. Oh just awesome.

But the weekend wonders didn’t stop there! I had a reunion with a group of friends that I had been missing dearly on Saturday. So many laughs, such a spectacular night.

I have the greatest friends.

Now I’m ready for the week … and it’s going to be healthy one! I’m FINALLY recovered from my cold (hooray!!!) and I’m hopping back on the healthy train. And I’m taking a new approach.

I’ve made a meal and exercise plan for the next five days.

While I had a blast in glass this weekend, I treated my body a little like a garbage receptacle. I’m talking beer, pizza, nachos, greasy concoctions … zero nutrition. Kinda like how Ron Ron eats when they get back from Karma on a Saturday night. And as delicious as it all was, bacon was involved in at least two meals, come on now ;)  , I’m ready to commit to eating clean this week.

Also, my groceries are dwindling and my plan will carefully utilize what’s left in the fridge :)

I’ve never meal planned before, but I’m very excited about it! I’m looking forward to getting back on track.

And the scheduled workouts?! I can’t wait. Typically, I just go to the gym and do my thang without a lot of planning ahead of time. Since I wasn’t feeling top notch last week, my workouts were 98% non-existent (except for the sweaty attempt on Wednesday). Now I’m craving sweat. You must know what I mean, right?

I can't WAIT to feel better. Yaaaay sweat!

Did you have a stellar weekend? Do you meal plan?

Have a great day – and how can you not, since I managed to fit three Jersey Shore references into this post?! I did that just for you :)

Magic App

Posted on

For my friends and family, it’s no secret that I’m addicted to my iPhone.

Thank you, Steve Jobs.

I used to be a part of the BlackBerry family … and that was fine for awhile … until I realized just how much greener the grass was on the other side of the fence. Since I’ve had my iPhone (almost a year now), it’s really changed the way I do things. I’m much more active on Twitter (on my personal account/the account I run for my job/my Twitter for this blog, @yellowhaired1). But in addition to social media and networking, I use my iPhone to make my workouts bigger and better.

This weekend, while I was doing absolutely nothing and loving it, I stumbled across the iMuscle application. I’ve tried other apps in the past to try and spice up my workouts … but this bad boy takes the cake.

It’s seriously so cool.

With the iMuscle app, I have the capability to select a specific muscle and learn different exercises for it. While I do have quite a collection of moves stored up in my ol’ brain, I’m no personal trainer and this gives me ideas to expand my workout like I never imagined.

I used the app when I was planning yesterday’s upper body workout. There was one muscle (which this bad boy tells me is called the subscapularis, who knew?) that I knew I wasn’t working to the best of my ability.

Long story short? I’m a tad sore today.

If you have an iPhone and are willing to put out the $1.99 (it’s tough economic times, I know) I definitely recommend giving this app a shot.

*I did not contact, nor did I receive anything from the creators of iMuscle for the review of this application.*

The TV Junkie’s Workout

If you’re a heavy duty TV watcher like me … Mondays are hard. (#firstworldproblems)

Seriously though. There are so many TV shows on Monday nights.

Let’s look at the run down, shall we? Prepare to judge me.

First up, The Bachelor – filled with catty women, cheesy dates, “he is my destiny” kind of interviews, and Ben’s weird hair.

Moving onto the sitcom lineup … we have How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls (SUCH a gem), Two and a Half Men, and Mike & Molly.

That right there is a lot of television. But I’m not done.

I TOLD YOU you would judge me.

The night wouldn’t be complete without Gossip Girl and all of it’s Blair Waldorf/Chuck Bass drama. And the fashion? Oh my.

Then, things get musical with Smash. This is a newer show on NBC. Have you seen it? Brilliant.

And last, but certainly not least, we have The Voice. Where I drool over Adam Levine for most of the episode. And also marvel over the fact that I think Christina Aguilera is morphing into a singing version of Snooki (anyone else see that?).

**DISCLAIMER: I’ve never, ever, ever had a night where I’ve seen all of these shows in one sitting. That would be ridiculous. I end up watching most of the episodes online throughout the week when I get a chance. Can you IMAGINE how mushy my brain would be if I stayed up watching all of that in a single night?**

So you see … that’s a lot of TV. And that can turn into a serious couch potato “butt indent in the couch” kind of an evening. So I get active on commercials.

Usually, it’s lunges. I do them from one side of my living room to the other for most of a commercial break. It might not seem like a lot … but when you do even 50 every break for an hour long show … that adds up. Holy booty.

I couldn’t get to the gym yesterday (apparently Family Day/President’s Day means the gym gets to be open for a very stupid, small window), so I rocked this last night instead. Lunges during every commercial break of Gossip Girl … squats during every commercial break of Smash.

I hurt today.

See … you don’t need a gym for a rocking butt. You just need to be a TV addict ;)

Have a wonderful day!

Working Day

Posted on

Well hello, Monday. I didn’t want to hang out today. But here you are. Persistent, aren’t you?

A lot of people have today off of work/school because it’s Family Day or President’s Day, depending on where you are.

While it’s Family Day where I am, I do not have the day off. This blondie is working. Oh well.

I managed to get a workout in yesterday, which is a good thing … since I can’t get to the gym today. Why not, you ask? I go at 6AM everyday, and because of this whole “let’s take Monday off” thing, the gym isn’t opening until 10AM. And will be closed almost immediately after I get off of work.

Yeesh, people! What about us working folk?

So, it’s a good thing I got there yesterday. Not that I can’t do workouts at home … I just like the gym better. Here’s Sunday’s workout:

There it is! My arms were quite jello-ish once I finished it. Love that feeling!

The rest of Sunday was spent on the couch, catching up on all of the television shows I missed last week. Quite a list. I watch A LOT of shows. Included on yesterday’s roster … Happy Endings and Cougar Town (penny can, anyone?).

So. Funny.

Do you have a favorite TV sitcom? Those two are definitely in my rankings. Along with Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother.

I hope today is wonderful for you – whether you’re working or relaxing!
