Fantastic Friday

Posted on

Friday.

I love you.

Like, really love you.

I’m so happy this day is here. Weeeeeeekend time! Here’s what is fantastic on this Friday:

- I taught my first Zumba class this week. IT WENT SO WELL. I pinky swear/cross my heart promise I will write a post about it for Monday. I was so happy with how the class went. Everyone was smiley and sweaty by the end of the hour. Plus, I have coworkers in it. One of them was so sore the next day, stairs were the enemy. I get sick joy out of that (insert evil cackle here) ;)

- I get to sleep in tomorrow. And Sunday. I might nap all Sunday afternoon, too. It’s a pretty easy weekend for me. Zero complaints. I feel like my eyes have been half open since Tuesday.

- I leave for Phoenix in a week! Bye bye, chilly Canada. Hello, warm Arizona.

- A friend of mine and I are trying a new drive-in restaurant tonight. Burgers, shakes, fries, deep fried pickles. I like the sound of it. Alllllll of it. A nice way to kick off the weekend, I must say!

- Another great way to start off the weekend? By going to a play with my boyfriend! I like supporting the local arts, so we’re heading to a smaller scale production. I hope it’s good! I’m a theatre junkie.

What’s making your Friday fantastic? I want to hear it!

Superhero Sunday

Posted on

I usually like to have a relaxing Sunday before I kick off the work week. That wasn’t the case yesterday! Not. At. All.

I stayed in on Saturday night, lounged on the couch, watched my favorite hockey team and read a few magazines. It was some spectacular alone time, something I feel like I haven’t had much of lately. After such a low key evening, I woke up yesterday morning (after 10.5 hours of sleep, whaaaaat?!) and was ready to take on the day.

I downloaded a couple new episodes of the Josh and Ross podcast. If you’re a Chelsea Lately fan, I definitely recommend it. Those two are hilarious! I put my headphones in and before I knew it, I had spent two hours cleaning my apartment. I didn’t even know it needed two hours of dedicated time! ;)

Then I headed to the gym. Since I’ve been spending so much of my “exercise time” working on Zumba (only 8 days until I start teaching!!!!), I haven’t been there that often. I climbed 50 flights on the StairMaster, and then did a serious upper body workout. My shoulders were screamiiiiiiiiiing at me. Love that.

Then, after a long walk to Starbucks to have coffee with a couple of friends (it’s amazing how sleepy the fresh air made me on the walk home!), I tackled seven million a few loads of laundry. And prepped some food for the week! I’ve been getting into a habit of making a big pot of quinoa (I add it into soups/my daily breakfast wraps/whatever else happens to come along) and a pot of red lentils (I like adding them to soups and pasta) lately. It really makes my life easier during the week.

Then more Zumba prep! And finally, Girls.

What. A. Day. And incredibly active, when you consider gym + walk + Zumba. My to do list didn’t know what hit it (and yes, I make at least one to do list each day).

Did you spend yesterday relaxing? Or was it a superhero Sunday like mine?

Today

Today:

I meant to work for just a couple of hours on Saturday, and ended up putting in 8. So I didn’t get much of a weekend. Plus my favorite football team (like, I’m a season ticket holder – COMMITTED) lost a very big game yesterday. Womp wompppppp.

So, I’m going to live in dream land for just a moment and pretend that this is what today’s schedule looks like:

- I finally get out of bed at 11AM.

- I get a loooooong workout out in and sweat out the fries/nachos/candy I ate yesterday.

- I watch four hours of Mad About You on Netflix.

- I nap. Twice.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Instead, I suppose I’ll put on some fancy pants and a touch of makeup and take my adult butt to work. Sigh ;) Happy Monday loves!

If you were living in a dream land, what would top your schedule today? It’s fun to make believe sometimes :)

Five Simple Pleasures

Posted on

The five simple pleasures rocking my Monday:

1. How great Saturday was. I spent Friday night at my parents house, so I woke up and got to see them before they headed off to a million meetings and events like they usually do. Then I had coffee with friends. Then I had dinner with friends. Then I went to Pitch Perfect, and then saw even more of my favorite people. Fantastic day.

2. I have today off (let’s be real, this post was scheduled … I’m definitely not out of bed yet). I worked close to a 15 hour day yesterday, so I get the second part of my weekend today! I’ll be watching every terrible daytime talk show you can think of. I may even turn on The View just so I can yell at Elisabeth Hasselbeck. But probably not ;)

3. I finally got back to the gym on Saturday! I took 8 days off, due to my nasty ass cold. It feels goooooood to be active again!

4. My favorite Canadian football team (diehard fan … my family has season tickets) clinched a playoff spot. Wham bam thank you ma’am.

5. Wholly Salsa. I tried the roasted tomato flavor this weekend. There’s so much garlic in it (win!) … and no ingredients that are a million letters long and full of z’s and q’s. Real ingredients! I put it on some scrambled eggs for breakfast. SOLD.

Reminded

Posted on

I was reminded this weekend how important sleep is. After a successful shopping trip (I got a pretty new dress for a wedding in a couple of weeks), oodles of Thai food for dinner, and the new episode of Saturday Night Live (please tell me you saw the Magic Mike/Joseph Gordon-Levitt monologue) … I got ten hours of sleep on Saturday night.

Awesome.

Since I was so rested, I was able to knock yesterday outta the park. I completed a 2 mile run + 45 flights on the StairMaster + weights for arms at the gym, cleaned my whole apartment (even VACUUMED), watched some football + all of the Emmy red carpet coverage and the entire show itself. Wow! A totally full (and wonderful) day.

Note to self: sleep more often.

What was the best part of your weekend?

Huge Smile

Posted on

Hey guys! I’m just super duper fantastically happy today. And have been the last couple of days. I’m not totally sure why, but I’m thinking maybe it’s because Glee is back?

Or because there was a pot luck at work yesterday where the main theme was carbohydrates (this girl likes her pasta). I brought a salad. It was the only veggie on the table ;) Balance is key, am I right?

Or maybe because it’s Friday?

Or … possibly because I had a kick ass day at work yesterday with an overwhelmingly positive evaluation from my manager? Like, awesome.

I don’t know the reason. But I know I LIKE IT. I’m outta here, with a huge smile on my face :) Enjoy your day and your weekend!

Listening

Posted on

I’m a very good listener. #brag

It seems as though my friends tend to choose me to tell their problems to and ask me for advice. My living room has seen a lot of boy drama discussions and bottles of wine (or vodka).

I love that my friends come to me for stuff like that (and I do my fair share of complaining and bitching to them, believe me!). I like listening to them.

Recently, I’ve taken listening to a different level. My iPhone still goes off consistently with texts from my girlfriends (and the occasional lost guy friend), and I listen away. But lately … I’ve been listening more carefully to my body, too.

I’m usually pretty good at that. But I just feel like I’ve been more in tune lately. Does that make sense? My body is running the show.

I know this because … I didn’t set my alarm on the weekend. And slept until 11AM on Saturday and 11:30AM on Sunday. Granted, I had later nights. But I usually force myself to get out of bed and get the day started, regardless of what time I hit the pillow. My body wanted more sleep, I gave it more sleep. And you know what? I still got everything accomplished that I wanted to.

I know this because … I’ve been hopping on the treadmill and just going until I want to stop. I never do that. I’ve been pushing myself all over the gym, because my legs just want to keep running and my arms want to keep lifting. Feels great.

I know this because … my chin is covered in acne. Yes, my body truly is in control ;) ugh.

One For The Books

Posted on

This weekend was one for the books, folks. I enjoyed myself immensely!

Friday, two friends and I celebrated in style on a local patio with dinner + beers. Lemon tea beer for me. It hit the spot.

I paired that bevvy with a grilled chicken/avocado sandwich. Is there a better way to say TGIF? I think not.

Then, like all super cool people do … I spent my Friday night doing this:

Dexter. In my bed. I’m on Season 6 now, preparing for the show to start up again in October. Are you a fan? I find this season a lot darker and gorier (real word?) than the rest. I’m not bothered by it … simply an observation.

ps – I was asleep by 11:00. Yaaayyyyy Friday night ;)

Saturday morning kicked off with some yoga. It was supposed to be hot yoga, and it would have been my first class of the type. But the teacher we had was a substitute, and wasn’t sure to what to crank the thermostat to … so it was warmish yoga. I still liked it, but I’m still really looking forward to finally trying a hot yoga class. I wanna really sweat. I’m glad I starred this post of Meredith’s in my Google Reader. She breaks down her first experience, and it’ll help me prepare for mine!

I really hope I can find a way to sneak in a class this week. It might be tough to squeeze in (this week be crazy, yo), but cross your fingers :)

After yoga, I grabbed a couple of necessities from the grocery store (eggs, chicken breasts, tortillas, Greek yogurt) and headed home for a few hours. Guess what? More Dexter. I’m obsessed.

Then, I curled my hair …

And headed off to a wedding. My first of two in a row (my BFF’s is this Saturday!!!!).

What. A. Night. We hit the dance floor at 9:15, and I finally left it just after 1. The best kind of nights are the ones where you’re surrounded by friends, and know every word of every song the DJ plays.

Needless to say, when I woke up yesterday, my legs were sore from dancing and my arms were sore from yoga ;) That’s a GREAT thing.

In my life, Sunday is usually a synonym for Nap Day, Catch Up On TV Day, Wear Old Sweatpants Day, and Dread Going Back To Work Day. All of those things happened. I’m nothing if not consistent!

I’m gearing up to take on the week. I’m only going to be at work on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday … but they’re going to be crazy. Then I’m heading out of town to help get things ready for my best friend’s wedding (and to fulfill all of my bridesmaid duties) on Thursday morning. Bring it on!

How was your weekend? Anything you’re particularly looking forward to this week?

Putting Things Off

Posted on

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was the perfect balance of getting things accomplished on Saturday (including a two mile run!) and doing absolutely nothing yesterday. The lazy time was wonderful. So wonderful, that my motivation is lacking today and I’m stuck in weekend mode. My brain already wants it to be next Saturday, so I can be grilling burgers and having drinks with friends on my balcony. Sigh. Here’s hoping the week goes fast ( …and now that I’ve said that, I’ve guaranteed it will drag, right?). And while I’m hoping for things, I’ve also crossed my fingers that the sun comes out for the weekend. The forecast is glooooomy. What’s the weather like where you are?

Lately, I feel like Queen Procrastinator.

My kitchen is practically empty. Since I don’t want to get up and look to see what’s happening in there … I think I can safely guess that the only vegetables I have are of the frozen variety. There might be part of an onion in my crisper, but that’s it. Since I am blogging at the dining table next to my fruit bowl, I can see that it’s empty as well. And I know I ate the last two eggs for breakfast on Friday. Those three things are major staples of my diet. Part of me wants to go grocery shopping … another (much larger, much lazier) part wants to put it off and see how I can survive the week ;)

I made a list yesterday of things I need to clean in my apartment. It’s a lengthy list … one I should have started shortly after putting the pen down. But then Notting Hill was on. #chickflickaddict

And then The Tony Awards were on. #theatregeek

Source

And then Girls was on. #duh

So, that got put off. I tell you, procrastination is taking over guys. I’m not usually like this!

What is something you procrastinate a lot? I’m not a big “put it off-er” … but laundry doesn’t usually get done until I have absolutely nothing left to wear ;)

Friday Poetry

Posted on

Friday is here, it sure took it’s time
I’ve decided to celebrate by writing in rhyme

A poetry post is a tad bit absurd
Sorry, not sorry … I’m a bit of a nerd

No plans tonight, just working and food
Either pizza or pasta … I’ll have to be wooed

Tomorrow, Dexter, playing non stop
Maybe a trip home on Sunday to see Mom and Pop

I’m taking it easy, no real plans to keep
Maybe I’ll try to catch up on sleep?

There’s one thing on tap, time with the treadmill
I’ve caught that bug, now there’s no holding still

I hope that the weekend is lovely for you
Please tell me … what will you do?
