Happiness Today

Happiness today:

- The awesome support I received after publishing Tuesday’s post. I knew I would feel better after writing my thoughts out. That’s how I work. But I feel 700% better because of all of the wonderful things people said to me. I had smiles on the inside and outside.

- The earrings I’m wearing. My boyfriend got them for me for Christmas. Sorry … I’m going to take a brief second to tell you a vomit inducing story. And he’d be embarrassed, but we’ll just pretend this didn’t happen if anyone asks. I lost my favorite earrings a few months ago, and was pretty sad about it. He had a picture of me wearing them, took it with him to the jewelery store, and found a pair as close to the originals as he could. Except these ones are twice as beautiful. How wonderful is that?! There. Vomit story done. Sorry everyone.

(Also, I don’t have freaky spots on my cheek. Ignore those. I also do not have a tomato for a face. Thanks, iPhone.)

- Rise bars put a big time smile on my face. I had one for fuel before my spin class last night. De freaking licious. And when the ingredients are all pronounceable, I’m happy.

- Speaking of spin class, happiness today is dead legs. It’s been awhile since I’ve hopped on the stationary bike, and my body obviously knows that. It was yet again more cardio in my life, but it felt good to change my routine. I have that class every Wednesday from now until April wheeewwwwww.

- Isn’t this infinity scarf beautiful? My best friend made it for me. I refuse to take it off.

- Girls is back. So yeah, that’s awesome.

Happy Thursday! What’s making you happy today?

Setting Goals

Posted on

Hey everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I know I sure did … it was three days! I took Friday off, since I have accumulated so much overtime and had those hours to burn. And I thought I deserved it after the week I had.

Thursday night included celebrating a friend’s university graduation (she’s a nurse now!), and Friday afternoon included catching up with my best friend while she prepares for her upcoming wedding (I got my bridesmaid dress!).

Friday night was filled with a sushi dinner, cute boys (hey, I’m nothing but honest on here haha), and a going away party.

Saturday included an incredibly late sleep-in (I can’t remember the last time I woke up AT ELEVEN O’CLOCK) and an incredibly late night birthday celebration (including a 3AM patio pizza party, whoopsie).

I bummed around for most of yesterday, restarting my Dexter obsession and taking a nap.

It was a great weekend. Now I’m ready to take on the week … and this month! I can’t believe it’s JUNE already!

I’ve never been one of those people who makes a list of goals to accomplish. I always have a couple of things in mind that I’d like to get done … but I never write them down to hold myself accountable. I just commented on Heidi’s bucket list post the other day, saying I have the makings of a bucket list in my brain, but I’ve never written it down. I think know I would work harder to achieve goals if I wrote them down.

I’m starting small. That big bucket list will come. I’ve decided to set some goals for this month! Meg and Meredith are just two of my favorite bloggers who have inspired me to do this for the month :)

1) Try a new recipe. I’m in a rut when it comes to food. You’ve seen my WIAW posts!

Source

My diet consists of a lot of overnight oats, chicken breasts/veggie combos, and turkey wraps. I love all of those things, but it would be nice to shake up my routine a little bit. I would like to try one new recipe … maybe I’ll get to one of the countless recipes I’ve favorited from blogs?!

2) Build up to running 5K on the treadmill. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on the blog yet … but I’ve been trying to incorporate running into my cardio routine. I want to love running, and I’m slowly starting to really enjoy it! I love hearing the stories about people tackling races and achieving personal bests times. I think that’s a long ways away for me, but it’s a place I’d like to get to eventually. My distance has been getting farther and farther when I hit the treadmill. I’m going to hit 5K on the treadmill by the end of the month!

3) Have a wonderful 22nd birthday! I don’t think I’ll have too hard of a time reaching this goal :)

Source

I have a great group of friends who will be celebrating with me in a couple of weeks, and even a friend or two coming in from out of town! I have a very special birthday this year, because it falls on the same date as Father’s Day. That’s also the day I was born, if you’re interested in learning a little bit more about me ;) I will hang out with friends on the night of the 16th (dinner and dancing are obviously in order … two of my favorite things!) and then I will spend time at my parent’s house on the actual day of my birthday/Father’s Day, June 17th. I can’t wait!

4) Continue going to evening spin classes. I really have been enjoying this, and it’s something I’d like to keep doing. Sometimes it’s tough to get there because I’m tired/grumpy after work, but I think it’d be best to channel that emotion into physical activity. When I go to spin classes at night, it’s often my second workout of the day. I will need to remind myself not to push it too hard, but it’s really nice to have that endorphin rush to start my day and end it.

I think four goals is a great start! I’m excited to work towards accomplishing these!

Do you set goals each month? How was your weekend?

Word Vomit

Posted on

Sorry. That’s not a very appetizing post title. I hope you’re not eating. But word vomit is exactly what you’re going to get from me today. I have so many random thoughts piling up in the ol’ brain … and I’m sharing.

You get a random thought! You get a random thought! You’re all getting random thoughts!!

1. My Thursdays seen much emptier without Grey’s Anatomy on TV. Anyone else? Even if you’re not a regular viewer, you have to admit that not seeing this face on a regular basis would make you sad, too:

Source

2. If my legs were required to write this post, you’d have no new content to read on here today. I went to spin last night (after enjoying my first class so much). Ouchie. But it hurts so good. I’m looking forward to making this part of my regular routine.

3. The reason I felt so inclined to get my butt to spin yesterday was due to my lunch. Now, I’m not one of those people who will indulge and then think I have to bust my butt to work those extra calories off. That’s just not how I operate. But I skipped yesterday morning’s scheduled workout because I wanted an extra hour of sleep. It happens.

Then lunch hit.

We have a large annual summer fair where I live, and the media luncheon I was covering detailed the entertainment acts, rodeo, rides, etc. The whole community gets really hyped about it. The menu yesterday? Entirely fair food. Corn dogs. Burgers. Nachos. Pizza. Mini donuts. Sundaes. I don’t think there was anything that had any type of nutritional value, except maybe the lettuce in the taco salad. Oh, and cotton candy! All the stuff dreams are made of ;) After eating, I felt pretty extremely gross. So I wanted to get a little active last night. Spin was definitely the answer!

4. I won a giveaway on Julie’s blog yesterday! Very cool. I shrieked when I saw the post at work. I rarely win anything!

5. HOW GOOD does a fresh haircut feel?! I’m naturally blonde but got a little livened up yesterday, plus had the ends trimmed. It’s amazing how the removal of such a small amount of hair can make you feel pounds lighter. Am I right?! Best (fake) weight loss plan out there ;)

6. I started reading 50 Shades of Grey the other day. Yeah, I see what all the hype is about. It’s bananas. I’ll leave it there. Have you read it?

7. Some of the search terms that have been used to find my blog lately are hilarious. I had to share some of my favorites:

“look at me i’m a jumble of insecurities” (sounds a little like a T Swift song)
“passed out blonde lady” (I wasn’t aware I drank that much)
“killed for meat” (ummm…)
“what does the mocha cookie crumble frappuccino feel like going down your throat” (that’s rather specific and makes me uncomfortable)

and the absolute best one…

“when im home alone i spray my hair green and and get a orange spray tan and pretend im a carrot”.

8. I downloaded John Mayer’s new album the other day. I haven’t had much of a chance to listen to it yet, but I did put my headphones on while doing some research at work yesterday afternoon. I wasn’t concentrating very hard on the lyrics, of course … but there were definitely a couple of beats that caught my attention. I’ve missed John. I’m glad he’s back. Although I feel like he’s trying to morph into Johnny Depp a little more everyday. Right?

Ahhhhh! I feel much better, now that’s all out in the open. I have much more brain space available to fill up with things like what I’m going to order for dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant tonight, and how late I can get myself to sleep in tomorrow morning.

You know, valuable information ;)

Enjoy your weekend!

My First Spin Class

Posted on

I took my first spin class on Tuesday.

And I loved it. Loved it.

L – legs that hate me/the instructor/music/the world/life in general.

O – obscene amounts of sweat.

V – very satisfied customer.

E – eyes burning from aforementioned sweat

I love spin!

It was a 7:45pm class, which I wouldn’t ordinarily agree to, but I wanted to be awake for my first class (unlike how I am for my regular 6am workouts). My friend agreed to go with me so I had a companion alongside me for my very first class.

Our instructor was perfect. Just enough encouragement. There wasn’t any violent yelling. Honestly, I had expected the spin instructor from Fever Pitch.

“Die you Nazi spin bitch!” …anyone else remember that line? Or the movie, for that matter (I obviously have a thing for Drew Barrymore movies lately)?

It was a 45 minute class. Just long enough. If it had been any longer I may have slid off my seat, crumpled into a ball and melted into a puddle on the floor.

My friend and I actually ran into a couple that we know who were spinning together (cute, right?) and they suggested I grab a towel from the front of the classroom before we started . I laughed. Laughed. I don’t need towels to wipe my face, I told them. Sure … I sweat, but it’s never towel worthy.

I take it all back. I’ve never had sweat burn my eyeballs before. Lesson learned.

Needless to say, I’ll go back. A lot. It’s an excellent way to shake up my workout routine.

I’m so glad I went! :)

Trying Spin

Posted on

I feel like today is going to be a good day. Not just because it’s going to be 31 degrees (hottttt!), or because I have a jam packed schedule that will make the day fly by, or because it’s one day closer to the long weekend.

I’m going to my very first spin class tonight!

Source

About a month ago, I mentioned in a #fitblog chat that I had never been to a spin class. The response was huge! It was made very clear by my fellow fitbloggers that I needed to try one out.

So tonight, I will spin. Eeeek!

Have you ever taken a spin class? Are you a fan?

*****

In other news, I have an extreme television hangover today. No complaints though.

Do you watch Smash?

Source

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. The finale was incredible. The last number left me with goosebumps. I watched the last ten minutes with my mouth wide open.

Have I ever shared with you that I am a huge Marilyn fan? I have so many Marilyn posters and books. I even have drinking glasses and coasters. Seriously. So this show is right up my alley (and I’m a musical addict). Last night’s episode didn’t disappoint.

And honestly, neither did the handful of other shows I watched last night (including The Bachelorette – any other fans?). I went hardcore with my couch and remote control time since last night was the only night I will be home all week. I should have cleaned up my living room.

Whoopsie.

Did you watch anything on TV last night? Tell me. I bet I watched it too ;)
