My Current Faves

Hello all :)

I wanted to give a quick weekend recap before I jump into today’s post. Several of you wanted to know how the butter chicken poutine was on Friday night. I’m sorry to say, I never had it :( My friend and I dropped by the restaurant at 7pm and were told it was an hour and a half wait! That was incredibly disappointing. I was a complete starvin’ marvin’ and there was no way I was going to be able to last that long. It was college graduation in the city on Friday, from what I hear it was incredibly tough to get into a lot of restaurants. We ended up a cafe that was very good, though. I had been there a few times before, and I knew it wouldn’t disappoint.

I have still have my sights set on that butter chicken poutine though! I must have it.

After dinner on Friday, I was busy cleaning my apartment … I even scrubbed the inside of my shower!! Who says I don’t know how to party on the weekends? ;) I love showering in a freshly cleaned tub. I know I’m not alone there.

I had a serious workout Saturday morning. A hilly 10 mile bike ride, biceps/triceps/shoulders, and then headed home to do Bob Harper’s 15 Minute Yoga Abs (which I have a very strong love/hate relationship with … huuuuuuuurts). It felt good to get a big sweat session in. Then after spending some time working on Saturday afternoon, I stopped by a friend’s house to help him organize his freshly moved furniture and clothing. Remember the pickle challenge? It didn’t happen. But I still feel like I could have made Snooki proud. After helping him hang up his clothing (apparently he wears nothing but blue or brown), a girlfriend of mine and I camped out on my balcony armed with sangria, wings, hummus, sangria, cheese, pita chips, sangria, and more sangria. After knocking back a fair amount of that, we got all prettied up and headed to the nearest club to dance our butts off. My legs were actually sore yesterday.

….which meant I spent a lot of the day listening to Bethany Joy Lenz/napping/watching The Parent Trap (of which I know every line).

I think it’s pretty clear that I’m a big TV watcher. Actually, my coworkers have mentioned several times how astounding it is that I watch the amount of shows I do, maintain a healthy lifestyle, have a social life, and get 8 hours of sleep every night. To be honest, I’m not quite sure how I do it either.

In addition to being a televisionaholic, I’m a pretty big bookworm. This is my nightstand:

So yeah, I like books.

For today’s post, I’ve decided to share my latest book/TV/music loves. Then I’m going to want to hear what your current loves are, too. I love trying out new music genres and watching new episodes of stuff online. So, please share :)

Latest book obsession:

I’m definitely a Nora Roberts fan, and this is her newest book. Funny story – I gave it to my mom for Christmas and my parents also gave it to me for Christmas. The story involves the Montgomery brothers, who are refurbishing a historic hotel in BoonsBoro, Maryland. This particular novel (book one of a trilogy) focuses on Beckett Montgomery. There’s a romance involved. There’s a ghost living in the hotel. There’s more cheesy romantic references (each room in the inn is named after a famous couple). I’m loving it so far! I enjoy the way Nora Roberts builds her stories. I know that the other two books will be based on the other brothers, just like in the Bride Quarter (I LOVED that series).

Latest music obsession:

I’m going to be honest, I fell in love with Gavin DeGraw’s newest album after seeing him perform on the One Tree Hill series finale. Listen to “Soldier”. You won’t be disappointed. Where I work, we take turns playing songs on YouTube all day long (we’re pretty fun, I know), and my coworker and I joke that 20, 000 of the 1.1 million views of “Solider” came from us. That’s probably not far from the truth ;)

Latest TV obsession:

Funny. Smart. Inappropriate. Funny (again). I love 2 Broke Girls. Have you been watching? It’s really nice to see a show on TV that features smart (and HILARIOUS) women. It’s amazing. Kat Dennings does a fabulous job (can you say sassy?!), and Whitney Cummings is a creator. That spells winning right there. I highly recommend it. It’s great for a Monday night giggle belly laugh.

What are you reading? Watching? Listening to? Share your current faves :)

A Total Write-Off

I decided to go out to a club with some of my friends on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun … I always enjoying having a couple of drinks and dancin’ the night away.

I take my nightclub dancing very seriously. I’m not one of those people who needs a few drinks in them to get out there and have fun. I probably look ridiculous but that doesn’t matter. I’m there to have a good time :) We were at a country bar … with a lot of country music, people in cowboy hats and boots … and ample amounts of two stepping.

Source

I left my cowboy boots at home though.

Have you ever two stepped before? It’s one of my favorite dances – but that’s because I’m a country girl at heart and have serious amounts of love for anything sang by Keith Urban/Tim McGraw/Garth Brooks/Blake Shelton/anyone in a cowboy hat.

I danced with several guys (who were all only mediocre – like I said, I take my dancing seriously), and then another fellow came up to me. He asked if I wanted to dance, and I said yes. It’s very rare I’ll say no to someone when they ask me.

I SHOULD HAVE SAID NO.

The poor guy didn’t have any idea what he was doing, plus he was leading with the wrong hand. I was trying to adjust to it … he was moving really fast … I was definitely struggling, but was trying to be a good sport about it.

Then, he decided to dip me … and dropped me. On my back. On the dance floor.

I would guess this was around 1 AM by this time – and you know what dance floors are like by that time of the night. Slimy, sticky, sometimes there is broken glass. And there I was laying in it (with a bruised elbow sustained from the fall, I might add).

Good times ;) Oh well, I survived.

Do you like to dance? My friends can’t stand me sometimes because I’ll drag them right out into the middle of the dance floor against their will. Whoopsie!

Saturday ended up being a spectacularly late night (I think I went to bed around 4? Yikes!). So yesterday I was beyond useless. A complete write-off. I had originally intended on heading to the gym. That got bumped on my schedule for this:

Slipper boots + yoga capri pants (anyone else LOVE hanging out in exercise clothes?!).

I did a yoga workout Saturday afternoon for arms and shoulders, and ended up being quite stiff and sore yesterday. Plus, I consider dancing in high heels for 3 hours a pretty great lower body workout ;) Or at least that’s what I told myself.

I’m back on the usual exercise train today! This morning’s workout will be a hilly 25 minute bike ride (I don’t usually worry about how many miles) and then some arm and shoulder work. I signed up for the Tone It Up! Bikini Series, and that kicked off yesterday. I’ve decided I’m not going to follow the plan word for word (even though I love those girls and they’re geniuses), but use it more as a loose guideline for the next little while. I figured it can’t hurt to try to incorporate different routines into my regular workouts … I’m just not going to force myself to follow it everyday.

What is your workout today?

A Great Time

Posted on

Hello! It’s Monday Monday Monday! Which means the weekend is over, which also means I’m back from my trip to see my wonderful friend Megan.

It was a super quick little trip … I spent many long hours on Friday and Sunday in my car … but it was great! I really enjoyed being able to catch up with my best friend from college (sometimes texts/phone calls/Skype just don’t cut it, ya know).

The highlights (in which I actually list everything I did over the course of the weekend because the whole trip rocked):

We danced our butts off Friday night. Seriously, right off. I woke up with sore shins Saturday morning, nothing a good bout of stretching couldn’t fix … but I may have developed a new dance move to cause that. I bet I looked like her though, regardless of the move:

Oh, Julianne Hough. So fabulous.

After getting very little sleep Friday night, Megs and I jumped in the car with her roommate and headed off to Moose Jaw on Saturday morning.

I told you I’m Canadian. We have cities with strange names like Moose Jaw.

Anyway, we checked out the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa, which was incredibly cool. According to the website, the mineral pool has some health benefits:

“The warmth of the water combined with a rich cocktail of essential elements sooth and replenish the body. High concentrations of Epsom and Glauber’s salts, along with Silicon, Potassium and Magnesium provide many health-boosting benefits which relax muscles, ease joint pain, replenish cellular composition, rejuvenate and re-hydrate the skin, and help to detoxify the body’s lymphatic system.”

Since I had planned to spend a lot of my weekend in a car, I hit the gym quite hard Friday morning. Hence … I was a tad sore. The pool helped! It was fantastic. I was really enjoying myself …

… until they told us to get out because of a health and safety concern (rumor around the dressing room is the jets had stopped working, so the water wasn’t circulating – icky). So we didn’t get to swim as long as we wanted to. But I enjoyed the time we did spend there. If you are ever in Canada, and happen to be in Saskatchewan (and I would ask you WHY that is!), then check that place out.

The rest of Saturday flew by with heavy amounts of chatting, gelato eating, and movie watching.

Then? Sushi time. It was ahhhhhmazing.

AND I FORGOT TO TAKE A PICTURE OF MY PLATE. I also forgot to take pictures all freaking weekend. I was distracted by all the visiting that was happening. I’m a terrible blogger. All I can tell you is that I went to Enso Sushi in Regina and my life is now better for it.

Sorry.

After we rolled out of the restaurant (after eating all of that food that you will never see documented on the blog), we hit up the theatre to see This Means War.

The verdict? Not a great movie. Not a horrible movie, either. I probably won’t buy it. But I would watch it if it’s on TV.

The best part? The beautiful faces. I always knew I liked Chris Pine … but never have I realized how much I like Chris Pine.

So that pretty much sums up the weekend. I mean, I left a lot of stories out of this post … but I didn’t want to bore you. I had a wonderful time, and loved being able to hang out with Megan in the city she calls home. It was also my first time to Regina!

Oh! I did photograph one thing, so I should share. Megs was pretty proud of the breakfast she whipped up yesterday, and said it was deserving of a picture (she also said since I am Yellow Haired Girl, she should be referred to as Brown Haired Girl).

Greek yogurt with honey, topped with granola, strawberries, raspberries, almonds and craisins.

Well done, Brown Haired Girl!

So tell me – how was YOUR weekend?! Have you seen This Means War? What was the last meal you cooked that was definitely worthy of photography?
