Little Thoughts

Posted on

Hey everyone! I hope your Monday has started off on the right foot. As much as I hate to head back to reality, I’m alright with it today because I had such a great weekend. I went bowling with friends Friday night, did a little karaoke with my boyfriend (not something I would usually do … but it was so fun!), had a lazy Saturday morning with some eggs benedict (my favorite breakfast), and caught up on some much needed sleep yesterday.

Bring on the week!

Today’s post is brought to by the little thoughts floating around in my head. Here’s what happening upstairs lately:

- Does anyone else think Girls on HBO is getting strange? Don’t get me wrong, I still really like it. But sometimes I’m just like … whoa.

girls ny times

- I want to start cooking with ingredients foreign to me. You know, step out of my comfort zone. I made a pot of mung beans to add to my pre made salads for the week. That’s a first step! Have you tried cooking with anything “new to you” lately?

- After this week, my Zumba classes will be half over! What?! My students had to preregister for the eight week session. I can’t believe it will be over soon! And then I guess I cross my fingers that I get hired back for another eight weeks …

- I have a big inkling to try shirataki noodles. I guess this could kind of go along with cooking new things. I’m so intrigued!

- I know it’s so two months ago, but I can’t stop listening to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ Thrift Shop. I couch danced when they performed on SNL this weekend.

- I want spring. I want cute sandals and dresses and no jackets and longer days and walks outside. Mother Nature had a complete emotional breakdown yesterday and it snowed heavy. I’m ready for this to end. Soon!

- I still need to see Safe Haven. I’ll probably go to the theatre by myself (and bawl, because it’s Nicholas Sparks and that’s required behavior). Have you seen it?

safe haven

- I signed up to do a Color Me Rad 5K this summer! It’ll be my first race, even though it’s not competitive. I’m excited!

That’s enough word vomit for one day ;) enjoy your day!

Happiness Today

Happiness today:

- The awesome support I received after publishing Tuesday’s post. I knew I would feel better after writing my thoughts out. That’s how I work. But I feel 700% better because of all of the wonderful things people said to me. I had smiles on the inside and outside.

- The earrings I’m wearing. My boyfriend got them for me for Christmas. Sorry … I’m going to take a brief second to tell you a vomit inducing story. And he’d be embarrassed, but we’ll just pretend this didn’t happen if anyone asks. I lost my favorite earrings a few months ago, and was pretty sad about it. He had a picture of me wearing them, took it with him to the jewelery store, and found a pair as close to the originals as he could. Except these ones are twice as beautiful. How wonderful is that?! There. Vomit story done. Sorry everyone.

(Also, I don’t have freaky spots on my cheek. Ignore those. I also do not have a tomato for a face. Thanks, iPhone.)

- Rise bars put a big time smile on my face. I had one for fuel before my spin class last night. De freaking licious. And when the ingredients are all pronounceable, I’m happy.

- Speaking of spin class, happiness today is dead legs. It’s been awhile since I’ve hopped on the stationary bike, and my body obviously knows that. It was yet again more cardio in my life, but it felt good to change my routine. I have that class every Wednesday from now until April wheeewwwwww.

- Isn’t this infinity scarf beautiful? My best friend made it for me. I refuse to take it off.

- Girls is back. So yeah, that’s awesome.

Happy Thursday! What’s making you happy today?

Confessions

Confession: This still isn’t a Vegas trip recap.

Confession: It’s a week until Christmas and I feel entirely unprepared.

Confession: I haven’t been to the gym in more than two weeks. Between Vegas and being sick (I’m still under the weather … took another sick day yesterday), I just haven’t been there. Ugh. And I know I’m not going to get there until at least Friday. This is how I feel:

Confession: I’m kind of sad that Gossip Girl is over now.

Confession: I think I really damaged my foot. I keep getting shooting pains along the right edge of it. To the point where I limp sometimes. It’s not good. I need to see a doctor.

Confession: I’m going to start my Zumba choreography next week. Even though it’s just going to be me alone in my living room … I’m nervous. I hope I can smoothly transition back into it!

Any confessions today?

A Little PSA

Posted on

Hey everyone! Fancy seeing you here. Maybe you’ve noticed … maybe you haven’t … but I’ve been blogging less lately. I think I’ve decided to commit to a Monday/Wednesday/Friday sort of deal on YHG. I hate not posting more often, but it works better with my terribly important and busy life.

I’m completely kidding about the terribly important part ;)

Now that we have that little PSA out of the way … let’s chat! What’s up, guys?! Fill a sister in. Here’s some of the random and useless things happening in my life:

- I leave for Las Vegas on Wednesday. Excuse me, whaaaaaat? How did that sneak up so fast? So excited. I have so much to do before I leave. So much. But then I’ll be IN VEGAS with my best friend from college and we’re going to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on Friday night. How spectacular is that? Eeeeeeeeek.

- My Christmas party is next Saturday. I’m looking forward to getting all fancy pantsed and celebrating with some of my favorite people (I have some really great friends at work). I will pretty much fly in from Vegas, drive to my house, put on my dress, and leave for the party … but I can’t wait!

- After both of those wonderful points listed above … I’m really pumped for sleeping all day on Sunday ;) Hahaha.

Hmmm. What else has been happening?

- I can’t stop eating quinoa + red lentils. Like, actually CAN’T STOP. For lunch and supper almost everyday.

- Have I ever told you that I go for supper with one of my friends every Friday night? I think I’ve mentioned it, but I definitely can’t remember. We call it Friday Night Supper Club (and we know that’s super original, and also sounds like we are members of the Golden Girls). Well, we’re broke today. So guess where Friday Night Supper Club is? Costco! :)

- I’m putting my Christmas tree up tonight (with the same friend, after our fine dining experience at Costco). This is the first tree I’ve ever owned for myself, my own tiny little thing in my own tiny little apartment. The last several years I just went without. But this year, the holidays will be bumping in my living room! It’s early for me … my family doesn’t usually put up the tree until the 18th or so. When do you typically put up yours?

- I’m pretty sure Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways starts next week and that makes me giddy. Ellen’s holiday giveaways > Oprah’s holiday giveaways.

- There’s nothing in my fridge. Other than the typical condiments and Bolthouse juices, I have an expired container of Greek yogurt, around 8 eggs, and a half of a spaghetti squash. I’m not going grocery shopping until after my trip. Challenge accepted.

How exciting is my life, guys?! Bahahaha. Do you feel enlightened?

Tell me something entirely random happening in your life today. Or something that happened yesterday. Or something you hope happens tomorrow. I’ll read anything (obviously … I think I follow every tabloid on Twitter).

Happy Friday!

Today:

I meant to work for just a couple of hours on Saturday, and ended up putting in 8. So I didn’t get much of a weekend. Plus my favorite football team (like, I’m a season ticket holder – COMMITTED) lost a very big game yesterday. Womp wompppppp.

So, I’m going to live in dream land for just a moment and pretend that this is what today’s schedule looks like:

- I finally get out of bed at 11AM.

- I get a loooooong workout out in and sweat out the fries/nachos/candy I ate yesterday.

- I watch four hours of Mad About You on Netflix.

- I nap. Twice.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Instead, I suppose I’ll put on some fancy pants and a touch of makeup and take my adult butt to work. Sigh ;) Happy Monday loves!

If you were living in a dream land, what would top your schedule today? It’s fun to make believe sometimes :)

By The Numbers

Four things I’m excited about this week:

- Being so busy that I know it will flyyyyyy by.

- Baking banana bread. I have bananas in the freezer just begging to be used. I’m thinking a chocolate chip/peanut butter combination?

- Having a hot date on Friday ;)

- Getting some workouts in! I haven’t been as consistent with that lately. I’m excited to get a little sweaty during the next few days!

Three confessions about my weekend:

- I let an entire sink of dishes sit … in dish water … for 24 hours. I filled the sink, and then remembered that I actually hate doing dishes. So I left the house and didn’t come back for a long time.

- I ripped off most of a fingernail because I was so anxious watching my favorite football team play (was worth it … they won!).

- I sorted laundry. Kind of. I mostly just started sorting laundry. I ended up with a huge pile sitting in the middle of my bedroom floor that I don’t feel like moving. Or washing. For possibly the rest of my life. I’m just waiting for the moment I get up in the middle of the night to pee, trip over it and break my nose.

Two things I’m reading:

- The new Cosmo magazine. Yes, I still buy it every month. And yes, I still laugh at myself every month for buying it. Will I continue to part with that $5 every month? Probably. There’s no changing me.

- Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella. I was obsessed with her Shopaholic series … so I’m giving this one a try. So far, so good! I love British humor.

One picture that I’ve had saved on my desktop for a month and haven’t had a blog post to put it in:

Sorry about the language … but it’s Monday. You’re to going to have to let this one slide :)

Just Rub My Shoulders

Posted on

Hey there!

I took some time for myself yesterday and cashed in some built up overtime hours. It was a wonderful day. I cleaned up my kitchen, took a long nap, finished my book, made some soup, and had a long workout. Success! It was a really great day away from the usual stress at work.

Another element of my day? My morning massage appointment. I should go for them more often, because I don’t have the best back. I’ve tried acupuncture, massage, the whole nine yards. It’s much better than it used to be … but I definitely should go more often.

Anyway. Sidetracked.

I left my 60 minute appointment annoyed as crap. Somewhere between my last appointment with her and yesterday, she got  very  into reading auras or chakras or something or whatever. I don’t know how it works. I do know she talked for my entire appointment. She told me which emotions I was feeling. She listed them. Doubt, criticism of myself, a lack of trust in myself, hunger (what else is new?), sympathy, empathy. And then had me list what areas of my life I feel them in. As in, talk back to her while my face was in the pillow on the massage table. I was unprepared for the soul searching. I felt like I was in a therapy. Then she would ask rhetorical questions, I wouldn’t realize they were rhetorical … and then I’d feel ashamed for answering them. She said I’m emotionally imbalanced. She didn’t mean to be offensive, but I took it that way. Oh, and because the right side of my body tends to hurt more than my left, I must have issues in the relationships I have with the men in my life (I can assure you, I most definitely don’t).

There’s a time for observations about someone. When I’m naked is not the time. When I have sore muscles and big knots that you’re MISSING BECAUSE YOU’RE BLABBING SO MUCH is not the time. I think self reflection is important. I think talking and learning is important. Just … when you’re qualified to do it. And aren’t touching my butt.

I’ll be finding a new masseuse.

Have you ever gone to an appointment and left severely disappointed?

Love Today

Posted on

Anyone else get that Mika song stuck in their head after reading this post’s title? Great song. And it’s scientifically impossible to be in a bad mood after listening to it (a cure for the Monday blues, perhaps?).

Here’s some of the things I love today:

- I took the day off of work (second Monday in a row, what what?!). I have an obscene amount of banked overtime hours to use up. Today seemed like a good day. I was supposed to have plans, but don’t anymore. So I booked myself a last minute massage appointment for this morning … and then who knows? A nap? Long gym session? Starfishing in my bed? The world is my oyster today.

- I finally got to Costco yesterday for the essentials (read: not that essential, I’m overdramatic). I’ve been meaning to get there for awhile. Success!

- I spent a large chunk of Saturday wandering through my favorite bookstore. The result? I’m a lot poorer. I bought five books. Did I mention I already have a stack of five or six sitting beside my bed, waiting to be read? I have a problem. I love books.

- As a result, I had a very quiet Saturday night filled with candles that smell like cookies, my glasses, a big ol’ quilt, and my books. I had a late night out with friends on Friday, so it was nice to spend some time by myself.

- Oh! And to be able to watch Saturday Night Live that night. Anyone else watch? The Louis CK/Abraham Lincoln skit was incredible.

- New music. I went on a country music downloading binge recently. Hunter Hayes, Carrie Underwood’s newest stuff, Jason Aldean’s newest stuff, T Swift (duh) … I’ve been in a headphone la la land ever since.

- I bought this yesterday. Don’t worry, I won’t set it up for another month. But look! Excited! A tiny little tree for my tiny little apartment.

When do you usually start decorating for the holidays? The countdown is on until I bust out the holiday music and start wearing a Santa hat around the office.

Five Simple Pleasures

Posted on

The five simple pleasures rocking my Monday:

1. How great Saturday was. I spent Friday night at my parents house, so I woke up and got to see them before they headed off to a million meetings and events like they usually do. Then I had coffee with friends. Then I had dinner with friends. Then I went to Pitch Perfect, and then saw even more of my favorite people. Fantastic day.

2. I have today off (let’s be real, this post was scheduled … I’m definitely not out of bed yet). I worked close to a 15 hour day yesterday, so I get the second part of my weekend today! I’ll be watching every terrible daytime talk show you can think of. I may even turn on The View just so I can yell at Elisabeth Hasselbeck. But probably not ;)

3. I finally got back to the gym on Saturday! I took 8 days off, due to my nasty ass cold. It feels goooooood to be active again!

4. My favorite Canadian football team (diehard fan … my family has season tickets) clinched a playoff spot. Wham bam thank you ma’am.

5. Wholly Salsa. I tried the roasted tomato flavor this weekend. There’s so much garlic in it (win!) … and no ingredients that are a million letters long and full of z’s and q’s. Real ingredients! I put it on some scrambled eggs for breakfast. SOLD.
