Two words.
Wi-fi and Netflix.
In my post yesterday, I mentioned that I’ve been renting movies off of iTunes to watch while I run on the treadmill. The time just fliiiiiiies, it’s a welcome change from my usual Kesha/Rihanna/Katy Perry playlists and I also don’t have to attempt to read the closed captioning off of the gym televisions. Makes me dizzy. Plus, the closed caption typos are terrible.
So watching movies on my iPhone is awesome. Great new trick. But iTunes rentals are $5. That adds up. Even though I think “What’s Your Number?” was totally worth it. I’m obviously no movie critic, but I loved it. Chris Evans is a stud. Added bonus.
Anyway. I feel like these rentals are going to add up, and I just don’t have the coin for that. The answer? Netflix. WHY DIDN’T I GET NETFLIX EARLIER? I feel like I might be one of the last people on the planet to sign up. I’m going to pay $7.99/month for a whole bunch of entertainment, as opposed to movies for $5 a pop.
And my gym has Wi-fi. I win all around. So maybe I’ll never get off the treadmill again. Or the Stairmaster. See, I can be a gym rat and a TV addict at.the.same.time.
You know what else? I can finally watch the documentary “Food, Inc” (albeit in my pajamas on the couch, it’s not the kind of mindless entertainment I want during runs). I’ve been wanting to see it forever. Have you seen it?

Watching tv at the gym is the best! Workouts fly by!
I haven’t seen this one! I feel like if I had some good tv show or movie on while I ran I would just keep going, or at least walk forever!
without netflix, i am nothing.
Ha, I know right, I would always get so annoyed that the captions on the TVs would be SUPER delayed too and just not normal, I felt like I was almost mentally challenged trying to put the captions together with the actual speaking of the people (but muted) and it would never work out the way it should haha. I love netfix, I keep having to remind myself that I have it though, I’m not a big TV person but I’ve been watching some stuff on it lately. I finished all of the seasons they have of Gossip Girl (they need to put out season 5!) and I watched the whole season of Friends with Benefits (some random show that showed up on there that I actually really liked, it reminded me kind of of How I Met your Mother, but not really) and now I’m watching How I Met Your Mother from the beginning. Good stuff.
Such a great idea! I used to think I could only run while listening to music, but then I started watching tv and it really helped pass the time! (The only thing that didn’t help was watching the food network…just makes you hungry)
Agreed that that’s a major boon to treadmills and other cardio machines–the entertainment. A good TV show, book, movie, or magazine definitely make time go more quickly, and make me more likely to stay on until I’m finished or at a good stopping point.
Yesss I saw Food Inc. 2 years ago or so and it was final straw in my decision stop eating meat, not wanting to deal with finding the “right” stuff. It’s really appauling. I’m in the process of looking for the safe stuff and maybe easing back in, but our country’s food production has serious problems that need solving.
….soooo… enjoy the movie? haha
Definitely watch. Information is power.
