An Unclassy WIAW

Hey hey hey! I love that it’s Wednesday. I’d love it more if it was Friday … but hey, this will do :)

As always, a big “thanks darlin!” goes out to Jenn over at Peas and Crayons for hosting What I Ate Wednesday. It’s one of my favorite blogging parts of the week!

This is what I ate on Monday, June 4. (I originally typed May there. Someone needs to catch up and figure out what month it is!)

Breakfast:

This has been a regular menu item recently. I had two poached eggs on top of a multigrain bagel thin. This week’s had a light layer of cream cheese for some extra ooomph on a sleepy Monday morning. For those of you who have asked … the reason I can get the eggs so perfectly symmetrical (a bonus for someone with slight OCD) is because I have an egg poacher. It’s probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I had a glass of orange juice on the side. Random fact: whenever I see a picture of someone’s breakfast with a glass of OJ on the side, I automatically hear an announcer’s voice saying “as part of a balanced breakfast” like they used to say in sugary cereal TV commercials. Weird, I know.

Lunch:

Usually I would have some sort of a snack in the middle of the morning, or at least a cup or two of David’s Tea at work, but on Monday I didn’t have anything! Strange. I came home for lunch and whipped up a tuna salad wrap. I mixed canned light tuna (packed in water) with some Greek yogurt, threw in some shredded cheese, and put it into a whole wheat tortilla. I added some color (and veggies!) with carrots on the side.

Supper:

Supper was incredibly unclassy. I ate it out of a large measuring cup. As you can see, it was perfect for hanging onto while watching TV from the comfort of my couch. In my sweats. I’m a real class act. Sorry I’m not sorry. It’s a little tough to see what’s in the measuring cup … so here’s the explanation. I started off with toasted buckwheat (my first time making it!), then added steamed brussel sprouts, edamame, grilled chicken breast, and a dollop of my usual Greek yogurt. I mixed it all up and it looked really disgusting. But it really hit the spot! Even if it was in the lamest dish I own ;) I really did have normal plates and bowls. But I chose the measuring cup. Do you ever eat your meals out of weird dishes? When I used to make Kraft Dinner back in the day, I ate it right out of the pot…

That’s another WIAW in the books. There’s not a lot of vegetables in there, I realize. Whoops. Next time? :)

Have a lovely day, guys! The week is almost over!

  1. Haha i love mishmosh dishes in weird bowls. If I were measuring things out and didn’t need to waste another bowl, you bet I’d be eating out of the measuring cup, too! I’ve definitely done it. If I’m finishing an ingredient from a jar/container/box, then the rest of the ingredients go in there. Easy peasy. Classy shlassy.

And you’ve convinced me I need to find myself an egg poacher.

  2. I love your breakfast! Yum, poached eggs. I often eat food from random containers. Once, I was in the middle of a ‘It’s-your-turn-to-do-the-dishes’ fight with my roommates and so we had absolutely nothing to eat with. I ate my oatmeal out of a lunchbox with a fork. Difficult, but I did it. I also won the fight.

  3. definitely used to eat mac and cheese… or ramen… out of the pot. and I always felt like I was cool like my big brother, so it’s still ok in my book. breakfast looks delicious. I might have to go shopping for an egg poacher. I love when the yolks are runny. makes the bread so good.

  4. When I get to the bottom of my yogurt container, I like to dump a bunch of stuff in there, mix it all up and eat it right out of the container. It just tastes better that way, plus it’s one less dish to wash. And as someone who frequently eats dinner while watching TV (also in sweat pants), I’m inspired by the idea of eating out of a measuring cup with a handle…

  5. There’s nothing unclassy about the measuring cup! It prevents the need for a bib or to balance a bowl on your stomach, so in relation, the measuring cup is pretty fancy.
