WIAW Time!

I’ve read countless articles on why it’s not always wise to eat in front of the TV. I don’t follow that rule very often. But over the last few days, I’ve been especially rebellious … all for Dexter.

A friend of mine had been talking for weeks about how much she loves this dang show. Like, she brought it up everyday. She wanted asked forced me to borrow the first two seasons on DVD from her, so I started watching on Sunday. I’M HOOKED. I’ve been eating every meal while sitting on my couch, so I can soak up all of the creepy, forensic magic. It’s nothing like I have ever watched in my life (I’m a hardcore fan of all things Gossip Girl and Grey’s Anatomy). I’m only on the first season, too! Two thumbs up. Do you watch it?

Anyway, 99% of the eats featured in this week’s What I Ate Wednesday post were inhaled in front of episodes of the television drama.

As always, a big ”thanks, love!” to Jenn over at Peas and Crayons for hosting the weekly party :)

I’ve been all about honey lately. This week, I drizzled it on a whole wheat bagel thin topped with crunchy peanut butter, a sliced banana, and chia seeds.

This wouldn’t be a WIAW post without overnight oats, right?! I made a bowl this week with regular oats, flax seed oil, chia seeds, strawberry Greek yogurt, PVL strawberry banana whey powder, and acai berry juice. I topped it with a random mix – some dried cranberries, golden raisins, peanuts … I think there was cashew pieces in there too, maybe? I can’t remember. But I do know it was delicious, pink, and filling!

Another menu item this week? An egg white scramble featuring ground turkey, red onion, spinach and (lots!) of green pepper. I topped it with cheese and a pretty little drizzle of sriracha.

I made lentil soup in my slow cooker on Sunday (I’ll share the recipe next week!), and decided to pair it with brown long grain rice one night this week … making it kind of like jambalaya. So much comfort in such a little bowl :)

Can you tell cheese was on my latest grocery list? I realized I hadn’t bought it in months (I’ve started using a lot of nutritional yeast), but I developed a craving for it last week so I bought a bag of shredded goodness. I’ll be adding it sporadically to dishes until it’s all used up.

Mmmmmmm, cheese.

Thanks again to Jenn for the fabulous What I Ate Wednesday party. See you tomorrow, I’m off to drool over look at some other WIAW’s!

  1. Wow what a delicious day of eats! I always say, everything is better with sriracha! The more the better! I also made a batch of lentil soup this week, and your picture is making me excited to dig in for lunch!

  2. So many of my friends have told me to watch Dexter. I still haven’t but maybe I’ll give it a try next rainy day!

I think cheese is my favorite food in the entire world and I have a hard time thinking that anything could replace it or make me crave it less. However, I am so curious to try nutritional yeast!

  3. I’ve never watched Dexter but I might just have to give it a shot! Eating dinner is one of my favorite things to do… I always feel like im breaking the rules! ;) I know, it’s pathetic and my husband hates it, so
I’m only able to convince him once or twice a week.

  4. I am a huge Dexter fan! I have watched every season. Like any show, some seasons are better but wait until the season 6 finally! I don’t know how much longer I can take for the Sept 30 season 7 premiere! The show really has a lot of unexpected events!

    • This is what people keep telling me! I can’t WAIT! I love the random surprises. I’m glad I’m borrowing it on DVD so I don’t have to be in agony over the cliffhanger at the end of each season … I can just put the next disc in :)

  5. english muffin with banana is one of my fave breakfasts ever! i haven’t had it in awhile because i like to sit and enjoy it and usually i’m eating as i run out the door in the mornings.
