This weekend was like Christmas in March April spring. Except all my gifts were bought for myself. Still exciting though
Remember last week when I said, without a doubt, that I was going to buy new gym shoes this weekend? Guess who kept her promise on Friday …
These aren’t the kind of shoes I would usually wear – they’re a little flashy. But I had tried on a few pairs and wasn’t find anything I liked (or the ones I liked weren’t available in my size), when the lovely teenaged salesman suggested these Nikes. I slipped them on, and angels sang. The clouds parted. They are incredibly comfortable and they have so much cushion.
That was gift 1 to myself.
Gifts 2 and 3 were also fitness related (and also purchased on Friday).
I’ve been meaning to buy some sort of resistance tubing, and found this on sale for $10! Would you like to know when I plan to use it? Well, I’ll tell you. I think I will dabble with this at night, in front of the TV. I’ve already established that I sometimes workout during my extensive nightly television watching. Why should I just sit there when I can be playing around with this new toy?! I can anchor it to my coffee table with no problem (it’s a REALLY heavy table) and experiment with it.
Gift 3 was a yoga mat.
I haven’t taken a yoga class in a really long time (years), although I’ve been meaning to go to a class. I just have to find one that works with my schedule and won’t cost me an arm and a leg to attend. Does anyone else find the price of yoga classes stupid expensive? Or is that just where I live? Regardless, I do partake in the occasional session in my living room, using what I know (that’s very little) and some random videos online. So I bought this bad boy, set it up in the sunshine and stretched away on Sunday.
Gifts 4 through … 50 (??) were in the form of groceries, but I consider them presents! Look at all the good stuff:
I went grocery shopping on Saturday – and you’ll never believe it, but I WAS AT THE GROCERY STORE BEFORE 9AM. I shocked myself. I’ve only done that once before, and really enjoyed getting it done so early in the day. But it’s a rare occurrence. I’m not really a late sleeper anymore (ahhh remember those days?), but I tend to lounge around for several hours on the weekend before heading out to do errands.
After shopping was over, I met up with my mom and sister. They were also grocery shopping. So I did it all over again, but just as an accomplice this time
I spotted something along the way that I hadn’t seen while I was completing my own list … so my mama was kind enough to purchase it for me.
I had never tried this prior to busting open the container yesterday. It’s like crack, it’s so good.
I guess I lied when I said all of my new things from this weekend were purchased myself, because she bought me this too:
There’s a bunch of great ideas in there! I love Rachael Ray.
That’s a look at all of my new swag (I’ll never use that word again, I promise). Did you buy anything for yourself this weekend?
ps. Happy Belated April Fools’ Day! Did you pull any pranks? Had any pulled on you? Before I left work on Friday, I tinfoiled every single object in a coworker’s office. I’m talking everything – his dual computer screens, his phone, chair, every single pen/picture frame/box of Tic Tacs … it’s quite a spectacle! I’m looking forward to seeing his face when I get to work this morning
Enjoy your day!

i also love getting grocery shopping out of the way first thing on a saturday. plus, it is so nice b/c the store is not crowded. i HATE a crowded market.
That extra room to breathe is definitely nice!
I didn’t buy myself anything exciting this past weekend (well, some easter eggs, which I consumed… but we shall never mention them again!). But… I’m due to buy myself some new gym shoes – ones that are properly fitted and good for dance-type classes.
Perhaps they will be my present to myself.
I love your ‘swag’!!!
Deb
Do it, buy some!! I’m craving some Easter eggs now
Love the new sneakers! You just reminded me that I have had mine for well over a year and should really invest in some new ones…
I think Yoga classes are SO expensive. I used to take the classes for free at my gym but then made the mistake of going to a studio class which was a million times better. Since I don’t like yoga to begin with (I just like how I feel afterwards) it’s hard for me to want to spend $20+ on a class!
Love the tinfoil joke!! My coworker wrapped every item on my desk in saran wrap a few years ago. I swear months later I was still unwrapping pens and paper clips.
Hahaha love the Saran Wrap thing!
Wow, I’ve never seen sweet potato hummus, but I have no doubt that I would LOVE it! That looks incredible!
It IS incredible!!!
Sweet potato hummus?! Amazing. I just found Green olive hummus that is DELICIOUS. I can’t get enough!
Omg really?!!! I love green olives!!
I LOOOOOVE that idea about the tin foil…next year I must do that!
I just got some new Nike shoes from my brother for my birthday. Awesome gift…there’s nothing quite like Nike shoes!
It was a pretty good prank … his reaction yesterday was priceless!
I NEVER would have had the patience to do all that tinfoiling! You are disciplined, haha.
Those are some very healthy gifts to yourself! New sneakers are awesome. I got some this past summer and I already want more because now they’ve lost their newness luster.
Yoga classes ARE expensive, it’s not just you. I bought a Bikram Groupon recently but other than that I don’t “belong” to any studios. My gym has yoga but it’s a bit hit-or-miss so I just do videos at home. I have been too cheap to buy a mat. At home I just use the carpet…haha
I was using my carpet, but now I put my fancy shmancy new yoga mat to good use
Ugh, yoga studios are SOOO expensive. I sometimes do yoga classes at GoodLife but they’re nowhere near as good as the ones offered at actual yoga studios. I get around the cost by attending “pay what you can” classes and taking advantage of intro specials (although I don’t know what I’m gonna do once I’ve made my way through every yoga studio in my city — maybe create a fake identity and start all over again, hoping they won’t remember me?).
